Who are we?

The Worthing Lodge of Friendship consists of just under 30 like-minded individuals from all walks of life.

The lodge was founded in 1861, making it the oldest masonic lodge in Worthing. The consecration and first meeting of the lodge, was held on 4th April 1861 at Worthing Town Hall.

A year before the town's iconic pier was built.

In 2011, we celebrated our 150th Anniversary!  â€‹â€‹â€‹

At present, we convene at The Charmandean Centre every Monday for what we refer to as the Lodge of Instruction. This session takes place from 19:30 to 21:30. Additionally, we gather on the second Wednesday of April, June, September, October, December, and February, from 17:30 until approximately 22:00, for full ceremonies. A man's age, occupation, or faith, regardless of what it may be, does not prevent him from joining this lodge. We hold the belief that Freemasonry should be an experience that includes families, serving as a means to enhance the qualities of good men.

Our lodge meetings are typically held in two parts. The first involves some of the more administrative procedures. This involves topics  such as proposing and balloting for new members and receiving news about charitable fundraising both nationally and locally.

In addition to this, the functioning element of the Lodge is then carried out – a process made up of three stages, each one marked by a special ceremony as you progress to become a Master Mason.

True to the sense of friendship and togetherness among Freemasons, meetings are also social events. This helps to provide an occasion for members to dine together which forms the second part of our meetings.

Outside of the Lodge, activities include community fundraising and volunteering activities, as well as a varied programme of events where spouses, partners and families are welcome.
